MERRY CHRISTMAS~~~

Sunday, November 23, 2008

For a short meditation---I have used a piece of Dove Chocolate. ~~~B R E A T H E ~~~
Sit comfortably---holding the wrapped piece of chocolate, relax and breathe
In & out---with every breath ---think about how it feels in your hand---the texture, the smoothness the width, circumference. ~~~B R E A T H E ~~~
Now put it up to your nose—close your eyes,
And smell it---smell in mindfully---do all of this mindfully being totally aware of what you have in your hands.
~~~B R E A T H E ~~~
Then slowly unwrap your candy and listen to the paper, feel every movement in your hand. Now read the message on your dove paper and feel this message sink to your memory~~~
~~~B R E A T H E ~~~
Now crunch the paper and feel, hear and smell—you can almost taste it already! Place the paper next to you and the feel the chocolate with your fingers.
~~~B R E A T H E ~~~
Put it near your nose and smell it, look at the design on it---what is it? Touch, feel,
Smell, See and now slowly place your tongue on it and Taste it. Hmmmmm~~~
~~~B R E A T H E ~~~
When you slowly put the chocolate in your mouth---do not bite it at first, just feel
The warmth of your mouth surrounding it~~melting it slowly~~~slowly ~~~
~~~B R E A T H E ~~~
As it melts gradually down your tongue into your throat, notice every thing about it.
~~~B R E A T H E ~~~

~~~R E L A X ~~~
How long did this take for you? You can make this sample meditation as long or
Short as you have time for. Just do it! How do you feel when you are done?
~~~You are Good Stuff~~~~

What does it mean that we are "able" to accomplish things?
Each of us has probably been pleasantly surprised by our ability to
transcend our own expectations by accomplishing something we thought was beyond our natural abilities. Well, try yoga and varieties of movement classes you thought you never would! You may surprise yourself!
As George Eliot states:
"There is a great deal of unmapped country within us"

Namaste'
which means
"The Inner Light (or Spirit) in Me,
Honors the Inner Light (or Spirit) in You.

I plan to add a quote occasionally to this blog
and this "Little Book of Calm" written by Paul
Wilson, is a little gem.

The very first thing he says is;

WASTE SOME TIME

Hard-working people never waste
time on frivolous, fun-filled activities.
Yet, for hard-working people,
any time spent this way is
far from wasted.

"Try it, You'll like it!"

~~~ MOVE TO KEEP MOVING~~~
Friday, September 19, 2008
Try this to help you get 'out of the blues'
and rejuvenate!
Lean your head forward down into the palms of your hands, relaxing your arms on a support.
As you inhale think of calm
flowing through into your body and as you exhale,
allow your body to sink and relax.
Inverted postures work particularly well, say Dr. Karen Koffler, an internist who trained in the Integrative Medicine Program at the University of Arizona. They alter the blood flow, benefiting lymphatic drainage and the cranial sacral fluid. “And if there is increased blood flow to the head area, “ she adds, “there will be increased bioavailability of oxygen and glucose—the two most important metabolic substrates for the brain.”
Patricia Walden, an international yoga teacher trainer, recommends supported inversions as well as backbends for people suffering from a depression characterized by inertia or fatigue. For those experiencing anxiety, she advises a more active sequence, modified according to experience and physical energy level. Walden tells her depressed students to keep their eyes open wide while practicing, and to move from posture to [posture without pausing in between, to generate life force and focus the mind on the body.
Because there are different types of depression, some poses and sequences will work better for you than others,. Listen to the needs of your body and mind and make modifications accordingly. You will inevitably face difficult thoughts or feelings in your practice. Balance these with positive ones. As you create physical space within your poses, you’ll create space within your consciousness as well.
Be Well, Live Well~~~
Goddess Pose can look silly as we stare at each other with
our 'Five Star' Pose of Hands and Head up and Feet flat on
floor squatting with knees bent and smiling with confidence!
Goddess Pose is one of many strengthening poses which helps
opens the hips and chest while strengthening and toning the lower body. Goddess pose stimulates the uro-genital, respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
Legs are as wide apart as what is comfortable for you,
Feet pointing 45 degrees away, squatting, hands facing forward, elbows bent and fingers pointing up~~~
Press the hips forward, press the knees back above toes. Drop the shoulders down and back and press the chest toward the front of the room. Keep the arms active, as if they were holding a big ball over your head. Look ahead with the chin parallel to the floor. Then exclaim:
“I am Confident and Strong!”
Breathe and hold for 3 -6 breaths.
To release: inhale and press into the feet, reaching the fingers out to the sides, turning the toes back to center. (One can place palms on thighs for this pose also)
**Do not attempt this if you have recent or chronic injury to the legs, hips, back or shoulders.
You must stay in shape. My grandmother began walking five miles a day when she was sixty-five. She's ninety-three today, and we don't know where she is! **The humor in the everyday is what keeps our juices flowing. There are almost always funny aspects to all of life~~~try to find them.
Robert F Kennedy, Jr at UWSP in July, 2008.
Lynda Sirianni, Wellness Practitioner from Rice Lake, WI, had the opportunity to meet, have a book signed, and chat briefly with Robert F Kennedy, Jr. while he was in Stevens Point, WI
In the keynote address of the National Wellness Conference, environmental activist and lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stressed the importance of natural resource conservation and its importance to Americans’ health.
“We’re not protecting the environment for the sake of the fishes and the birds; we’re protecting it for ourselves and our children,” he told Wellness Conference participants gathered in the Laird Room of the Dreyfus University Center on July 16, 2008.
Kennedy was invited to deliver the address at the 33rd annual conference, held on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus, to drive home the green theme of the conference, “A Visionary Turning’ Well Earth, Well People.”
Kennedy gave a grim out-look of environmental policy under the George. W. Bush
Administration, supplementing statistics with his personal experience prosecuting polluters in Appalachia and working with the water protection groups the Hudson Riverkeepers and the Waterkeeper Alliance, which he founded.
Kennedy also paused to outline, what he said was a failure of American media to inform the public about global warming and the Bush administration’s environmental wrongs.
“Today we know more about Paris Hilton than we know about global warming,” he said. We’re the best entertained and worst informed country on the face of the Earth.”
Kennedy also touched on environmental issues facing Wisconsin, including mercury contamination of freshwater fish and air pollution emitted from coal-burning plants.
“We’re living today in a science fiction nightmare ,”he said. “Where my children, and all children of Wisconsin, and everywhere in America, can now no longer engage in the seminal, primal activity of American youth. Which is to go fishing with their father or mother at the local fishing hole and then come home and safely eat the fish, because somebody gave money to a politician.”
Early on in his speech, Kennedy emphasized that this scenario could be turned around quickly with the support of committed politicians and citizens.
“This is something we can do in a few years—not a few decades—if we had the right political leadership,” he said.
Kennedy’s appearance was sponsored in part by Security Health Plan, the Community Foundation of Portage County and WebMD.
~~~RELAX~~~RELEASE~~~and Let Go~~~
"Blow bubbles with children"

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

Baby Benjamin does forward bends many times
and is so relaxed~~~Daddy Theodore, does hand
strokes as described below to help calm~~~

Practice this Yoga forward bend to rejuvenate your body

inside and out!

Ground your feet into the floor spreading your toes wide apart,

with your toes pointing forward.
Legs apart- -to your comfort level--bend down with breastbone reaching upwards
Until your head goes down---bending knees if needed and
if you want to release out lower back a bit more.
When bending forward you can either have your hands right
Down on floor in middle, on sides, on feet, calves, thighs
or grab your big toes (don’t pull them off!)—by index finger
and thumb and as you exhale just release down a bit more—until
you feel your own tension gently release.

Forward bends are great for your body, mind & spirit----
Just breath the number of breaths you are comfortable with and
Then slowly---slowly come up again as you inhale~~~
Bringing your head down helps you feel more invigorated and alive~~~
as long as you don’t stay down too long for YOU!

~~~
To induce a relaxed state of mind~~~
Stroke lightly upwards on
The back of your hand~~~
~~~
